CV/Bio
Jessica Wheeler is a watercolorist who has been painting for most of her life.
When she was eleven her dad surprised her with her first set of oil paints, brushes and canvases.
She now mainly uses water based paints and enjoys the pouring technique (paint is diluted and poured directly on the
painting substrate to create an interesting, smooth blend of colors.)
After graduating from Boston University in 1972
with Art History and English Education majors she spent a summer with a small group of artists in Rockport,
Massachusetts studying under the supervision of the American Impressionist, John Terelak. In 1982
she completed the Graphic Design Certificate Program at the University of Cincinnati School of Design,
and worked for many years as an illustrator in the greeting card industry. For twenty-five years, she has continually
enjoyed taking courses in illustration, watercolor and computer art at Rhode Island School of Design,
and is presently working toward a certificate in the Graphic Design Program at RISD. She has also enjoyed taking painting
classes at Rhode Island Watercolor Society and other art organizations.
She is a member of New England Watercolor Society, Warwick Center for the Arts, Portsmouth Arts Guild,
Bristol Art Museum, Art League of Rhode Island and is a Signature Member of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society.
Since 2006 her work has been accepted into many exhibits and she has been recognized for her work locally,
regionally and nationally.
